Sexual Assaults Suspect Arrested

Emerito Chicas-Savala

The Prince George’s County Police Department has charged the suspect responsible for two separate sexual assaults committed in October.  He is identified as 33-year-old Emerito Chicas-Savala, of the 8700 block of Arliss Street in Silver Spring.

On October 29, 2013, at about 1:15 pm, Chicas-Savala approached two women in the 6700 block of Belcrest Road. Chicas-Savala pulled out a handgun and forced the women into a nearby wooded area. He demanded property and then sexually assaulted one of the victims, a 24-year-old woman. During the assault, the sound of someone approaching startled Chicas-Savala and he ran away.

A short time later and less than 100 yards away, Chicas-Savala walked up to a group of teenagers. He again pulled out a handgun and demanded property from the victims. The suspect then sexually assaulted a 14-year-old female before running away.

Detectives obtained samples of the suspect’s DNA during the investigation.  That sample matched the DNA profile of a sample obtained in a sexual assault in Montgomery County.  PGPD detectives collaborated with investigators from the Montgomery County Police Department, and were able to develop Chicas-Savala as the suspect in the two cases in Prince George’s.

PGPD detectives obtained a warrant for Chicas-Savala on December 13, 2013.  He faces multiple counts of first and second degree rape, armed robbery, and related charges.  He is currently being held in Montgomery County on unrelated robbery charges.
