PGPD Remembers Fallen Officer Corporal Allan Johnson
Let us pause to remember our fallen hero Corporal Allan D. Johnson, lost this day in 1982.
Corporal Johnson was born on February 20, 1940, in Renova, Pennsylvania. He served with honor and distinction in the United States Army's 101st Airborne Division and, upon his discharge, joined the Prince George's County Police Department in August of 1962. Corporal Johnson served at Districts III and IV before being transferred to the Special Operations Division. In 1976, Corporal Johnson became one of the founding members of the department's Motors Unit and was named its Officer in Charge.
On December 6, 1982, Corporal Johnson conducted a traffic stop near Central Avenue in Largo. During the stop, he was struck by a car. The driver was under the influence of PCP. Corporal Johnson sustained massive injuries. He courageously battled his injuries for two more days before succumbing on December 8, 1982.
Corporal Johnson served the Prince George's County Police Department for 20 years. He was the 13th member of this agency to make the ultimate sacrifice and the 21st law enforcement officer to give his life while serving this profession within Prince George's County.
At the time of his death, Corporal Johnson was 42 years old and survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
