PGPD Help Make Special Olympics Spring Games a Success

Prince George’s County, Maryland… The Prince George’s County Police Department’s (PGPD) Command Staff participated in today’s Prince George's County Special Olympic Spring Games at the Prince George's County Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Maryland.
The Department has been an active supporter of the Special Olympics annual event for several years and continues to provide monetary and volunteer support.  Over 300 athletes participated in various track and field events, including wheelchair races, 50, 100, and 200 meter dashes, high jumps, shot put and long jump competitions.  PGPD Command Staff participated in the opening ceremonies and torch run.  They also presented medals to the athletes at the completion of the competitions.
Assistant Commander of the Community Services Division, Captain Irene Huskens stated, “The games are a great way for us to give back to the community.  We look forward to this event every year; it’s rewarding for both the athletes and the department.”
