Detectives Arrest Suspect Who Robbed Two Women in Adelphi

Detectives charged a suspect in connection with
the robbery of two women in Adelphi in the past two months. The suspect is 24-year-old Rony Alvarez-Espinal of the 1800 block of Metzerott Road in Adelphi. He’s charged in connection with robberies that occurred in June and July. Detectives are actively working to determine whether he’s linked to a similar crime in Adelphi in May of this year.

Alvarez-Espinal is charged with a robbery that took place on July 6th, at approximately 9:50 am, in the 1800 block of Metzerott Road. The preliminary investigation reveals he approached the adult female victim as she walked on a footpath and knocked her to the ground. He took a cell phone and the victim’s purse. 

On June 23rd, at approximately 3:55 am, the suspect robbed another adult female victim inside of an apartment building in the 1800 block of Metzerott Road. In this case, Alvarez-Espinal cut the victim’s arm with a knife. He then fled with the victim’s cell phone.

Through various investigative techniques, Alvarez-Espinal was identified as the suspect and was recently taken into custody. During the execution of a search warrant at his home, some of the victims’ property was recovered. In both cases, the suspect and victims did not know each other.

Alvarez-Espinal is charged with robbery, first and second- degree assault and theft. He is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

Detectives de la Unidad de Robos sometieron cargos contra un sospechoso en conexión a dos incidentes de robo contra dos mujeres en Adelphi durante los pasados dos meses. El sospechoso es Rony Álvarez-Espinal de 24 años de edad y vecino de la cuadra 1800 de Metzerott Road en Adelphi. Se le acusa en conexión a robos ocurridos durante los meses de junio y julio. Los detectives trabajan activamente para determinar si en efecto está relacionado con un crimen similar ocurrido en Adelphi durante mayo de este año.

A Álvarez-Espinal se le someten cargos por un robo ocurrido el 6 de julio aproximadamente a las 9:50 am en la cuadra 1800 de Metzerott Road. La investigación preliminar  reveló que se acercó a la víctima, una mujer adulta, mientras esta caminaba por la acera y la tiró al suelo. Se llevó el celular y la cartera de la víctima.

El 23 de junio, aproximadamente a las 3:55 am, el sospechoso asaltó a otra mujer adulta dentro de un edificio de apartamentos en la cuadra 1800 de Metzerott Road. En este caso, Álvarez-Espinal cortó a la víctima en el brazo con un cuchillo. Luego huyó con el celular de la víctima.

Recientemente, tras varias técnicas investigativas se logró identificar a Álvarez-Espinal como sospechoso y ponerle bajo custodia. Se recuperó propiedad de las víctimas durante la ejecución de una orden de registro en el hogar del sospechoso. El sospechoso y las víctimas no se conocían en ninguno de los dos casos.
