The Homicide Unit has identified and arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting in District Heights that occurred in early February. The suspect is 25-year-old Mikel Kennie of District Heights. He’s charged with the murder of 24-year-old Nathaniel Hampton, III of Upper Marlboro.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect and the decedent were known to each other and the shooting occurred during a drug transaction.
Kennie is charged with first degree murder and related charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

Sospechoso en Conexión a Mortal Tiroteo Ocurrido en District Heights
La Unidad de Homicidios identificó y arrestó a un sospechoso en conexión a un mortal tiroteo que se registró en District Heights a principios de febrero. El sospechoso fue identificado como Mikel Kennie, de 25 años y vecino de District Heights. A este se le imputa el asesinato de Nathaniel Hampton III, de 24 años y vecino de Upper Marlboro.
El 2 de febrero de 2022, poco después de la medianoche, oficiales de patrulla acudieron a la cuadra 6500 de Hil Mar Drive tras recibir información sobre el sonido de descargas de bala. Estos hallaron a Hampton inconsciente y con múltiples heridas de bala a lo largo del cuerpo, en el asiento de conductor de un vehículo estacionado. A este le declararon muerto en la escena.
