PGPD Searching for Suspect Who Fired Weapon at Officer

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Investigation Response Team is leading the investigation into the exchange of gunfire between a suspect and an officer on Saturday night.

On March 4th, around 8:50 pm, patrol officers responded to the area of Fable Street and Kayak Avenue in Capitol Heights. The initial call was for a fight, but was upgraded to a reported robbery. The preliminary investigation reveals a responding officer spotted a man who matched the suspect’s description. As that officer exited his marked police cruiser in an attempt to talk to the man, the suspect began to run across Southern Avenue into the District. The officer ran after the suspect. During the pursuit, the suspect pointed a gun at the officer. The suspect and officer then exchanged gunfire. Our officer was not hurt. There’s no indication at this time that the suspect was struck. Detectives continue to search for the suspect. He’s described as an African American man in his early 20s, about 6’0” and 150 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket and black pants.

The involved officer is Officer Jereme Brown who is assigned to our Bureau of Patrol. He joined the department in 2014. He is on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.  Anyone with information is asked to call SIRT investigators at 301-856-2660.
