Yair Medina
The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and charged a suspect with a fatal shooting that occurred in July. The suspect is 20-year-old Yair Medina of Lanham. He’s charged with the murder of 21-year-old Cameron Smith of Laurel.
On July 21, 2023, at approximately 1:10 am, officers responded to a shooting at the 13300 block of Edinburgh Lane in the unincorporated section of Laurel. The victim was located outside suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Information provided to Prince George’s County Crime Solvers assisted detectives with this investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed Medina shot Smith during a dispute. The suspect and victim were known to each other. Medina is charged with first and second-degree murder and related charges. He’s in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
