The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Investigation Response Team is investigating after two officers discharged their firearms, striking a dog that was attacking a man this morning in Capitol Heights.
On November 30, 2020, at approximately 4:30 am, patrol officers were called to the 100 block of Daimler Drive for the report of a dog attack.
The preliminary investigation revealed the responding officers observed the dog pinning the victim to the ground on the porch of a home. The officers were able to distract the dog. The dog turned its attention to the officers and lunged at them. The officers used a patrol shield as protection, but the dog’s attack damaged the shield. The dog then charged at the officers a second time. Fearing for their safety, both officers discharged their duty weapons, fatally wounding the dog. The victim of the dog attack suffered minor injuries. The officers were not hurt.
As is our standard operating procedure, officers will be placed on administrative leave pending standard,
post-shooting requirements. Anyone with additional information about this case

Oficiales de Patrulla Descargan Armas Durante Ataque
de Perro en Capitol Heights
El Equipo de Respuesta Investigativa Especial del Condado de Prince George’s abrió una pesquisa luego de que dos oficiales descargaran sus armas, impactando a un perro que atacaba a un individuo ayer en la mañana, en Capitol Heights.
El 30 de noviembre, a eso de las 4:30 de la madrugada, nuestros oficiales de patrulla acudieron a la cuadra 100 de Daimler Drive tras recibir información sobre un ataque de perro.
La investigación preliminar reveló que los oficiales vieron al perro presionando a la víctima contra el suelo en el frente de una residencia. Los oficiales lograron distraer al perro, el cual se volvió hacia estos y les atacó. Estos utilizaron un escudo protector, sin embargo, el ataque del perro lo descompuso. El perro se dirigió hacia los oficiales una segunda ocasión. Temiendo por su seguridad, ambos oficiales descargaron sus armas de servicio, hiriendo mortalmente al perro. La víctima del ataque del perro sufrió heridas leves. Los oficiales no resultaron heridos.
