Detectives with our Homicide Unit are investigating a fatal shooting in unincorporated Capitol Heights early Sunday morning. The victim is 19-year-old Carlos Benitez-Arevalo of Manassas, VA. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
On August 21, 2022, at approximately 2:40 am, patrol officers were called to the 1300 block of Richie Road for a reported shooting. They discovered the victim outside of a gas station suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Detectives are working to identify a suspect(s) and a motive.
