PGPD Arrests Suspect Wanted in Connection with “Jaws of Life” ATM String

Stefon Janey

The Prince George’s County Police arrested a suspect wanted in connection with multiple robberies as part of the “Jaws of Life” ATM string. The suspect is 31-year-old Stefon Janey of Upper Marlboro. He was taken into custody Wednesday evening after leading detectives, patrol officers and the Aviation Section on a pursuit in the county.

A grand jury indicted Janey this week in connection with eight robberies at multiple locations in Prince George’s County earlier this year – to include convenience stores in the 8600 block of Baltimore Avenue and the 8200 block of Martin Luther King Junior Highway. In each case, the group of suspects used hydraulic rescue tools, commonly known as the jaws of life, to attempt to break open the stores’ ATMs. In several cases, the suspects successfully stole tens of thousands of dollars.

The Prince George’s County Police Department continues to actively work to identify, locate and charge additional suspects. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment in connection with additional suspects.

Janey is currently indicted on 44 separate offenses to include robbery, malicious destruction of property and burglary. Additional charges against Janey are likely. He is in custody at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
