PGPD Investigates Drowning in Oxon Hill

Updated January 10, 2015: The drowning victim is identified as 7 year-old Zae’ Quan Antonio White of Southeast Washington, DC. The three officers who assisted in pulling the victim from the water are Police Officer Dale Sollars, Police Officer First Class Brendan Taylor and Police Officer Melvin Fulton.

On January 9, 2015, at about 5:30 pm, patrol officers were flagged down in the 1500 block of Southview Drive and told a child had fallen into a nearby pond. When they arrived, the officers immediately jumped into the water and pulled out the child. The officers preformed CPR until an ambulance arrived. The seven-year-old boy was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Both officers were also taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The preliminary investigation suggests the child was playing in the area and walked onto the ice-covered pond. The ice gave way and the boy fell in.
