PGPD Arrests Mother for Murdering her Children

The Prince George's County Police Department arrested a mother for killing her two young children in Cheverly. The suspect is 24-year-old Sonya Spoon of the 6200 block of Forest Road. The victims are one-year-old Ayden Spoon and three-year-old Kayla Thompson.

On September 7, 2014, at about 2:15 am, patrol officers were called to the home on Forest Road for the report of two unconscious children. The children were rushed to a hospital where they both died. Their deaths have been ruled homicides.

Sonya Spoon was taken into custody on the scene. She did admit to suffocating her children inside the home. The official cause of their deaths is pending. The motive is under investigation.  

Spoon is charged with two counts of first degree murder. She is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no bond status.

Homicide Unit commanders will be available to discuss the case and arrest on Monday, September 8, 2014, at 12:00 pm at police headquarters.
