PGPD Investigating Fatal Crash in Clinton

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is in the early stages of an extensive investigation into a fatal collision in Clinton on Wednesday morning. The victim is 32-year-old Shamika Brown of Ethan Manor Road in Clinton.

At approximately 6:30 am, patrol officers responded to a multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of Branch Avenue and Surratts Road. The collision involved a tractor trailer, a school bus and five additional vehicles. Brown was driving one of the involved cars. The driver of the tractor trailer was not hurt. The driver and two passengers on the school bus suffered what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries. Two additional drivers also suffered what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries. The remaining two drivers were not hurt.

The preliminary investigation reveals the tractor trailer was southbound on Branch Avenue approaching a red traffic signal at Surratts Road. For reasons that are under investigation, the tractor trailer drove through the red traffic light, causing a chain-reaction collision.

Investigators are working to determine the exact sequence of events. The investigation could take weeks to months to complete. As with any collision investigation, any charges against any driver will be determined in consultation with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office at the completion of the investigation.
