Patrol Officer Discharges Weapon During Dog Attack

A Prince George’s County Police patrol officer shot a dog on Sunday after the dog attacked and maimed a food delivery driver and then lunged at a Prince George’s County Animal Control officer. The dog, an American Bulldog, later died.

Patrol officers were called to the 3600 block of Endsley Place in the unincorporated portion of Upper Marlboro at approximately 5:30 pm for the report of an animal bite. The dog had just attacked a man delivering food to a home on Endsley Place. The dog bit off a portion of the victim’s ear and also bit the man’s neck and face multiple times. When an Animal Control officer tried to secure the dog, it broke free and  prepared to lunge at that Animal Control officer. That’s when a Prince George’s County patrol officer discharged his duty weapon, striking the dog.

As is our standard operating procedure, our Special Investigative Response Team will handle the investigation into the discharge of the officer's duty weapon.

Prince George’s County Animal Control is handling the investigation into the dog itself and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
