PGPD Homicide
Detectives have preliminarily determined the person responsible for the death
of a man in Landover in April was acting in self-defense.
The investigation
revealed that on April 22nd, at approximately 9:00 pm, 23 year old Tauron
Williamson of Livingston Terrace of Oxon Hill and 22-year-old Tyron Wheeler of
the 4000 block of Hayes Street in Northeast DC were attempting to rob
two men on 75th Avenue in Landover. Wheeler had a gun during
the robbery and shot one of the victims. That victim was listed in
critical condition. The second robbery victim fought back and struck
Williamson in the head with a rock. Williamson died of those injuries on April
25th. Preliminarily, detectives have determined that the
second robbery victim was acting in self defense when he struck Williamson.
It is also important to note that an initial medical
observation indicated that Williamson had also been shot, but a later autopsy
determined that his injury was solely the result of being struck in the head
with the rock.
Wheeler is charged with attempted murder, armed robbery and
related charges. He’s in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a
no-bond status.
Detectives are in
consultation with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office
regarding this investigation.
