Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Investigative Response Team (SIRT) has identified the six officers that were involved in the departmental shooting in the 8100 block of Rydal Road on November 12, 2011.
The involved officers are: 15 year veteran Lieutenant Michael Snyder, 23 year veteran Sergeant Terrence Nelson, 13 year veteran Corporal James Weinelt, 11 year veteran Corporal Phillip Foster, 2 year veteran Police Officer Paul Gambardella, and 1 year veteran Police Officer William Ledward. All of the involved officers are assigned to the Bureau of Patrol, District III. Each has been placed on routine administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy.
During the incident, Corporal Foster was injured when the suspect fired his shotgun at the on-scene officers. He was treated at a local area hospital for non-life threatening injuries, and was released from the hospital that same day. Corporal Foster is the third PGPD officer to be injured by gunfire in the line of duty this year.
