The
Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal
collision involving a motorcycle in Cheverly. The victim is
44-year-old Christopher McClain of 39th Place in Colmar Manor.
On October 1st, at
approximately 3:30 pm, officers responded to the intersection of Old
Landover Road and 65th Avenue for the report of a collision
involving a car and a motorcycle. McClain, who was operating the motorcycle,
and his passenger were rushed to local hospitals. McClain was pronounced dead a
short time later.
The preliminary investigation reveals the
motorcycle was heading westbound on Old Landover Road approaching the
intersection at 65th Avenue. The involved car was heading eastbound
on Old Landover Road approaching the same intersection. Preliminarily, it
appears the car attempted to make a left turn onto northbound 65th
Avenue in the path of the approaching motorcycle. McClain applied his brakes in
an attempt to avoid a collision. His motorcycle went into a slide. McClain’s
passenger, a young child, suffered what appear to be non-life threatening
injuries. The car’s driver wasn’t injured and remained on scene.
