Police Investigate Shooting of 12-year-old In Capitol Heights

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Division VIII, Westphalia Investigative Section is searching for a suspect(s) who shot and critically injured a 12-year-old child last night in Capitol Heights. 

The incident occurred around 6:35 pm in the 5200 block of Marlboro Pike. Police do not believe the young girl was the intended target. 

Preliminarily, the investigation reveals the girl was waiting for food inside of an establishment when, for reasons that remain under investigation, gun shots were fired from outside of the establishment. The young girl was struck in the lower body.  She was transported to a local hospital where she remains in critical condition.

Policía Investiga Tiroteo de Niña de 12 años en Capitol Heights

La División Investigativa del Distrito VIII-Westphalia del Departamento de la Policía del Condado de Prince George’s está en busca del sospechoso que abrió fuego e hirió gravemente a una niña de 12 años anoche en Capitol Heights.

El incidente ocurrió a eso de las 6:35 en la cuadra 5200 de Marlboro Pike. La Policía entiende que la joven niña no era el objetivo del ataque.

De manera preliminar, la investigación reveló que la niña esperaba por su comida dentro de un establecimiento cuando, por razones que permanecen bajo investigación, dispararon desde las afueras del establecimiento. A la jovencita le impactaron en la parte baja del cuerpo. A esta le trasladaron a un hospital en donde permanece en condición crítica.
