Greenbelt, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Alexander Williams, Jr. sentenced Juamal Samuel Carroll, age 22, of Temple Hills, Maryland, today to 114 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for robbery and using a gun during the robbery.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Mark R. Chait of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - Baltimore Field Division; Chief Mark A. Magaw of the Prince George’s County Police Department and Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela D. Alsobrooks. "The danger of an armed robbery is not measured by how much money is stolen," said U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein.
According to his plea agreement, on January 3, 2011, Carroll and a co-conspirator entered No Rulez Laundromat located at 8000 Martin Luther King Highway in Glenarden, Maryland and pointed a loaded shotgun at an employee. They took $13 from the employee and fled in a van.
The employee identified the van and Prince George’s County Police officers were able to locate it a short time later. Officers attempted to stop the van, but Carroll and his co-conspirator led the officers on a high-speed chase before finally being apprehended. A 12 gauge shotgun loaded with two rounds of 12 gauge ammunition was seized from the van.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the ATF, Prince George’s County Police Department and Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office for their work in this investigation. Mr. Rosenstein thanked Assistant United States Attorneys Cheryl L. Crumpton and Arun Rao, who prosecuted the case.
