PGPD Charges Five Suspects in Connection With Four Carjacking Cases

In the last week, the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Carjacking Interdiction Unit (CIU) charged five suspects in connection with four carjacking cases. Three of the suspects are adults, two are juveniles.

On May 25, 2023, CIU charged a 15-year-old male from Forestville with armed carjacking and related charges. The teenager was driving the car that had been carjacked at gunpoint earlier in the day in the 3500 block of 57^th Avenue. The suspect led police in a pursuit that ended in Washington, DC.

On May 23, 2023, CIU charged a 15-year-old male from Washington, DC with armed carjacking and related charges. The teenager was in a car that had been carjacked at gunpoint a short time earlier in the 1100 block of Kennebec Street in Oxon Hill. The suspect was taken into custody in Washington, DC.

On May 21, 2023, the Carjacking Interdiction Unit charged 33-year-old Tony Budd of Hyattsville with carjacking. He was taken into custody after fleeing from detectives moments after carjacking a car at a cemetery on Bladensburg Road in Brentwood. He had also unsuccessfully attempted to carjack a second vehicle at the same cemetery that day.

On May 20, 2023, CIU opened an investigation into a carjacking that occurred in the 1400 block of Southview Drive in Oxon Hill. Two days later, CIU detectives and members of the PGPD’s Washington Area Vehicle Enforcement (WAVE) Team observed the vehicle in the 800 block of Irvington Street in Oxon Hill. The officers conducted a stop and took both occupants into custody. They are 18-year-old Jaheim Chase of Washington, DC, and 18-yar-old Adrian Price of Washington, DC. Both are charged with motor vehicle theft, unauthorized use of a vehicle and related charges.

So far in 2023, the Carjacking Interdiction Unit has charged 84 suspects in connection with carjacking cases – of those, 51 are juveniles and 33 are adults.

PGPD officers have arrested 248 suspects in connection with auto thefts in 2023 – which is higher than all of 2022. Of the 2023 arrests so far, 110 are adults and 138 are juvenile. The number of juveniles arrested for auto theft so far this year is more than double the number in all of 2022. In 2022, PGPD charged a total of 66 juveniles.

Teenager Who Committed Attempted Murder on School Bus in Custody

This afternoon, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF), which includes PGPD officers, located and took into custody the 15-year-old male who is charged with the attempted murder of another teenager on a school bus. The suspect goes by the name “Baby K”. He’s charged as an adult in this case.

At approximately 2:40 pm, through investigative means, CARFTF members located the suspect in the 6300 block of Baltimore Avenue in the Riverdale Park area. He was taken into custody without incident.

On May 1, 2023, at approximately 4:55 pm, officers responded to the report of an assault that occurred on a school bus. The bus had just stopped at Iverson Street and Sutler Drive to drop off students. While stopped, three suspects boarded the bus and began to attack the victim who remained on the bus. One of the suspects, later identified as “Baby K”, displayed a handgun and attempted to shoot the victim multiple times but detectives believe the weapon malfunctioned. Ammunition was recovered from the bus. The victim suffered minor injuries during the assault. The two other juvenile suspects who committed the attempted murder on the bus are also in custody. A juvenile female is also charged with conspiracy in connection with the case.

“Baby K” is charged as an adult with attempted first degree murder, attempted second degree murder, assault, firearms offenses and additional charges.

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspects and victim were known to each other. Preliminarily, the attempted murder stemmed from a dispute.

PGPD Releases Photos of Persons of Interest in Fatal Hit-and-Run

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit today released a photo of two persons of interest in a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run that occurred in Capitol Heights on Sunday. Investigators are seeking the community’s assistance in identifying the two males seen in the picture. They were seen running from the area of the collision that killed 20-year-old Dyanny Leiva Sabillon of Capitol Heights.

On May 28, 2023, at approximately 12:45 pm, patrol officers responded to the 6700 block of Calmos Street. Once on scene officers discovered an adult female with critical injuries. She was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The preliminary investigation revealed an unidentified driver and passenger were traveling northbound on Calmos Street. For reasons still under investigation, the driver struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle before striking the victim who is believed to have been entering or exiting her vehicle. After striking the victim, the driver struck multiple unoccupied vehicles before coming to rest. The driver and passenger then exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. It was later determined that the striking vehicle was stolen.

Detectives Investigate Homicide in Suitland

The Prince George’s County Police Department is working to arrest the suspect(s) who killed a man Friday evening in Suitland. The victim is 23-year-old Bennie Maye Jr., of Hyattsville.

On May 26, 2023, at approximately 10:05 pm, officers responded to the 4400 block of Telfair Boulevard. The officers located Maye inside of an apartment suffering from trauma. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. An autopsy will confirm his cause of death.

Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime.

PGPD Searches for Driver and Passenger Involved in Fatal Hit-and-Run

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run that occurred in Capitol Heights on Sunday. The victim is 20-year-old Dyanny Leiva Sabillon of Capitol Heights.

On May 28, 2023, at approximately 12:45 pm, patrol officers responded to the 6700 block of Calmos Street. Once on scene officers discovered an adult female with critical injuries. The victim was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The preliminary investigation reveals that an unidentified driver and passenger were traveling northbound on Calmos Street. For reasons still under investigation, the driver struck a parked unoccupied vehicle before striking the victim who is believed to have been entering or exiting her vehicle. After striking the victim, the driver struck multiple unoccupied vehicles before coming to rest. The driver and passenger exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. PGPD Investigating Domestic-Related Homicide

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating a domestic-related fatal shooting in the unincorporated section of Upper Marlboro. The victim is 16-year-old Kamryn Janifer of Upper Marlboro.

On May 28, 2023, at approximately 9:10 pm, officers responded to the 12500 block of Woodstock Drive East for the report of a shooting. Once on scene, they located the deceased victim and two adults suffering from gunshot wounds. Kamryn was pronounced deceased a short time later at a hospital.

The Homicide Unit has identified all parties involved in this incident. They are relatives who live in the home and there is no danger to the community. The investigation continues.

Detectives Investigate Fatal Shooting in Temple Hills

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is working to identify and arrest the suspect(s) who fatally shot a man Sunday night. The victim is 18-year-old Kaden Askew of Suitland. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.

On May 28, 2023, at approximately 9:55 pm, officers with Maryland-National Capital Park Police responded to the 6100 block of Summerhill Road for the report of a shooting. Once on scene, they located the victim outside suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives are working to identify a suspect(s) and a motive.

The Prince George’s County Police Department investigates all homicides that occur within Maryland-National Capital Park Police jurisdiction.

Homicide Unit Detectives Charge Suspect in Fatal Stabbing

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit charged a man in connection with the fatal stabbing in District Heights Friday evening. The suspect is 33-year-old Aaron Bynum of District Heights. He is charged with the murder of 63-year-old Anthony Cunningham of District Heights.

On May 26, 2023, at approximately 6:25 pm, Division VIII – Westphalia station patrol officers responded to an apartment building in the 2100 block of Brooks Drive for the report of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they located the suspect in the lobby holding a sword. Officers ordered Bynum to drop the weapon. He was taken into custody without incident. The victim was located suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives are working to identify a motive in this case. The preliminary investigation revealed both the suspect and victim lived in the building. At this time, it’s unclear if they were known to each other.

Bynum is charged with first and second degree murder and related charges. He is in custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

PGPD Arrests Suspect in Suitland Homicide

The Prince George’s County Police Department Homicide Unit identified and charged a man in connection with a homicide in Suitland in February. The suspect is 33-year-old Rickey Redd of Oxon Hill. He's charged with the murder of 38-year-old Andra Sweeper of Baltimore.

On February 4, 2023, at approximately 8:30 pm, officers responded to the 3300 block of Curtis Drive to assist with a call for an unresponsive woman in an apartment. The victim was located suffering from trauma. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

During the investigation, detectives collected items of evidence in the victim’s apartment. DNA testing of those items linked Redd to the murder. The preliminary investigation revealed the victim and suspect met online and arranged to meet at the victim’s apartment where the murder occurred.

Redd is charged with first and second degree murder and related charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no bond status.

Suspect in Town of Landover Hills Homicide in Custody

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit charged a suspect in connection with the homicide in the town of Landover Hills on Wednesday. The suspect is 47-year-old Andre Andrew Dougal of no fixed address. He’s charged with the murder of 31-year-old Langley Sloan of no fixed address.

On May 24, 2023, at approximately 7:50 pm, officers with the Landover Hills Police Department and the PGPD responded to the 6500 block of Annapolis Road for the report of an unresponsive man outside of a store. The victim was suffering from a stab wound and pronounced deceased on the scene.

Homicide Unit detectives reviewed surveillance video which captured a portion of the incident, to include an image of the suspect.

On May 25, 2023, Homicide Unit detectives were canvassing for additional information in this case. While in the 3800 block of 64^th Avenue, detectives observed the suspect seen on the surveillance video. He was taken into custody without incident.

The preliminary investigation revealed Dougal stabbed Sloan during an altercation. They are known to each other. Dougal is charged first and second degree murder and related charges. He’s in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

The Prince George’s County Police Department investigates all homicides in the town of Landover Hills.

Detectives Investigate Homicide in Town of Landover Hills

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating a homicide that occurred Wednesday evening in the town of Landover Hills. The victim's name will be released once his family is notified. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
