PGPD Investigating Fatal Crash Involving Scooter

 The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision involving a scooter in Bowie. The scooter operator was killed in the crash. He is 58-year-old Carl Holby of Glenn Dale.

On September 29, 2021, at approximately 5:15 pm, officers responded to the 6100 block of High Bridge Road for a collision involving the scooter and an SUV. Holby was transported to a hospital where he died a short time later. The SUV’s driver was not hurt in the collision.

The preliminary investigation suggests Holby was traveling northbound on High Bridge Road prior to the collision. The driver of the SUV made a left turn from a shopping center in an attempt to go southbound on High Bridge Road. The scooter and SUV collided in the northbound lanes.

PGPD Investiga Mortal Choque Con Scooter

La Unidad de Análisis y Reconstrucción de Choques investiga un mortal choque que ocurrió en Bowie e involucra a alguien en un scooter. La persona que operaba el scooter murió en el choque. Este fue identificado como Carl Holby, de 58 años y vecino de Glenn Dale.

The preliminary investigation revealed the theft took place on September 18, 2021, on Brooks Drive. Package Theft Investigation

Investigators are also working a package theft investigation in Oxon Hill. The preliminary investigation revealed on September 9, 2021, the pictured suspect stole a package from outside of a door on Marcy Avenue. Theft Investigation

A theft at a cell phone store in Largo is also under investigation. The theft took place on August 5, 2021, at a business in the 10000 block of Campus Way South. Breaking and Entering Investigation

Our last case is a breaking and entering in Capitol Heights. The preliminary investigation revealed the pictured suspects broke into a business in the 4800 block of Marlboro Pike on September 23, 2021. Submit Your Mobile App Tip Here! The case number is 21-0043449.

PGPD Charges Suspect in Connection With Officer-Involved Shooting

The Prince George’s County Police Department charged a suspect in connection with Sunday’s officer-involved shooting. The suspect is 19-year-old Nashad Barksdale of Washington, DC. He faces several gun-related charges as well as causing destruction to a police interview room.

On September 26, 2021, at approximately 11:10 am, officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of Branch Avenue in Temple Hills for the report of an armed carjacking in progress. When the first officer arrived on scene, he observed two men in a parking lot between two cars. One of the men began to run away and the first officer chased behind him. The second man, Barksdale, ran in the opposite direction toward Branch Avenue in the direction of the second officer who arrived on scene. While running, Barksdale reached into his waistband and pulled out a handgun when he observed that second officer. The officer discharged his duty weapon, striking Barksdale in the leg. Officers applied first aid to Barksdale prior to his transport to a hospital for treatment. The officer was not hurt. Barksdale’s gun was recovered at the scene.

Barksdale was released from the hospital several hours later and brought in for questioning. During the interview, he did admit to pulling out a loaded handgun from his waistband when he observed the responding officer. While at the Major Crimes Division, he did cause approximately $1,000 in damages to an interview room.

 

Investigators continue to work to locate the second suspect who initially fled from the scene.

 

The Major Crimes Division is investigating the actions of the two suspects. The Internal Affairs Division is investigating the actions of the involved officer who is a 16-year veteran assigned to the Bureau of Patrol. He is on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

 

The Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office reviews all officer-involved shootings.

PGPD Acusa a Sospechoso en Conexión a Tiroteo con Oficial

El Departamento de la Policía del Condado de Prince George’s acusó a un sospechoso en conexión a un tiroteo con uno de nuestros oficiales que se registró el domingo. El sospechoso fue identificado como Nashad Barksdale, de 19 años y vecino de Washington DC. Este enfrenta varios cargos referentes a armas de fuego y otros por ocasionar daños dentro de una sala de entrevistas.

El 26 de septiembre, a eso de las 11:10 am, nuestros oficiales acudieron a la cuadra 3100 de Branch Avenue en Temple Hills tras recibir información sobre un carjacking en curso. Cuando el primer oficial llegó a la escena, este vio a dos individuos entre unos autos, dentro de un área de estacionamientos. Uno de los sujetos salió corriendo y el primer oficial fue tras él. El segundo individuo, Barksdale, corrió en dirección contraria hacia Branch Avenue -ruta sobre la cual se dirigía el segundo oficial que llegaría a la escena. Mientras corría, Barksdale sacó un arma de la cintura al ver al segundo oficial. El oficial descargo su arma de servicio, disparándole a Barksdale en la pierna. Los oficiales brindaron primeros auxilios a Barksdale previo a trasladarle a un hospital para que recibiera atención médica. Detectives Obtain Arrest Warrant for Suspect in Domestic-Related Homicide in Clinton

Updated September 30, 2021: James Kirkland was located deceased on the night of September 29, 2021, on Hackberry Court in Clinton. The Homicide Unit is investigating his death as a suicide. Preliminarily, it’s believed he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause and manner of death.

Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the man wanted in connection with a domestic-related homicide in Clinton. He’s identified as 25-year-old James Darnell Kirkland of the 10900 block of Hackberry Court in Clinton. He’s charged with fatally shooting his girlfriend, 24-year-old Moyonna Tillman of Clinton.

On September 24, 2021, at approximately 11:35 pm, patrol officers responded to the 10900 block of Hackberry Court for the report of a shooting. Once on scene, officers located the victim in the front yard of a home suffering from gunshot wounds. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced deceased.  

Detectives are working to establish a motive in the case.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit are working to arrest the suspect(s) who shot and killed a man Sunday evening in Temple Hills. The victim is 23-year-old Davon Graves of Suitland.

On September 26, 2021, at approximately 7:00 pm, patrol officers responded to the 4500 block of St. Barnabas Road for the report of a shooting. Once on scene, officers located the victim unresponsive in a parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

PGPD Investigating Weekend Homicide in Unincorporated Laurel

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is working to determine the circumstances of a fatal shooting in the unincorporated section of Laurel Saturday night. The victim is 27-year-old Ismael Westry of Hyattsville.

On September 25, 2021, at 9:50 pm, officers responded to the 14300 block of Baltimore Avenue for the report of a shooting. Once on scene, officers located the victim inside of a car that had crashed. Westry was suffering from gunshot wounds and transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify the suspect(s) in this case.

PGPD Suspends Off-Duty Officer Following Arrest

The Prince George’s County Police Department suspended the police powers of an officer following his arrest by the Annapolis City Police Department on Wednesday. Corporal James Thornley faces several charges to include assault and the use of a firearm. He is suspended without pay.

The officer is accused of pointing his duty-weapon at another driver in Annapolis the morning of August 26, 2021. Thornley was off-duty at the time and was traveling home in his personal vehicle shortly after leaving work. He was still wearing his police uniform. No one was injured during the incident. 

The Internal Affairs Division has opened an investigation into the officer’s actions.

Corporal Thornley joined the police department in 2003. He is assigned to the Bureau of Patrol.

PGPD Suspende a Oficial Fuera de Turno Tras Arresto

El Departamento de la Policía del Condado de Prince George’s suspendió los poderes policiales de un oficial tras este haber sido arrestado por el Departamento de la Policía de la Ciudad de Annapolis el miércoles. El Cpl. James Thornley enfrenta varios cargos entre los cuales figuran agresión y uso indebido de un arma de fuego. Este ha sido suspendido sin derecho a remuneración.

Al oficial le acusan de haber apuntado su arma de fuego hacia otro conductor en Annapolis durante la mañana del 26 de agosto de 2021. Thornley se encontraba fuera de turno al momento y se dirigía a su casa en su vehículo personal poco después de salir del trabajo. Este aun vestía su uniforme policial. Nadie resultó herido en este incidente.

El Negociado de Investigaciones Internas abrió una pesquisa para investigar las acciones del oficial.

El Cpl. Thornley ingresó al departamento policial en el 2003. Este está adscrito al Buró de Patrullas.

Missing Girl Found

Raven Smith

The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s help in finding a missing child. She is identified as 11-year-old Raven Smith. She was last seen in the 10200 block of Windsor Oaks Way in Lanham on September 19, 2021 at approximately 11:40 pm.

Smith is described as a black female, 5’10” tall and 150 pounds. She has brown hair, brown eyes and was last seen wearing a black shirt with an anime character on it, black shorts, and tie-dye crocs.

El 17 de septiembre de 2021, a eso de las 9:30 pm, nuestros oficiales acudieron a la cuadra 4700 de St. Barnabas Road tras recibir información sobre un tiroteo. Al llegar a la escena, estos hallaron a la víctima con múltiples heridas de bala, en las afueras del área. A este le trasladaron a un hospital en donde le declararon muerto poco tiempo después.

Nuestros detectives buscan determinar cuál fue el motivo e identificar al sospechoso(s) en este caso.

PGPD Investigates Fatal Collision in Brandywine

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating the circumstances of a fatal crash in Brandywine. The deceased driver when be identified once his family is notified. 

On September 17, 2021, at approximately 01:23 am, patrol officers responded to Floral Park Road near Arya Drive for a single-vehicle crash. The driver was pronounced dead on the scene.  

The preliminary investigation revealed the driver was heading northbound on Floral Park Road. For reasons that are under investigation, his car left the roadway and ultimately struck a tree.
