PGPD Arrests Two Suspects in Fatal Shooting at Camp Springs Motel

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit charged two suspects in connection with a fatal shooting at a motel in Camp Springs on Wednesday. A third suspect was killed during the incident. The deceased suspect is identified as 26-year-old Karon Moore of Washington, DC. The deceased victim is 23-year-old Xavier Matthews of Temple Hills.

On June 28, 2023, at approximately 7:00 am, officers responded to a motel in the 5100 block of Allentown Road. Officers located both Matthews and Moore with gunshot wounds. Matthews was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Moore was pronounced dead on the scene.

                             Christopher Jamar Jenkins 

Two suspects are in custody in connection with this incident. They are 24-year-old Keymonte Day of Washington, DC, and 22-year-old Christopher Jamar Jenkins of Capitol Heights. The preliminary investigation revealed that Matthews and Day were staying at the motel when multiple male suspects entered their room in an attempt to rob Matthews. Those male suspects included Moore and Jenkins. During the attempted robbery, there was a shooting inside of the room. Both Moore and Matthews were struck. The remaining male suspects, as well as Day, all fled the motel together. The preliminary investigation revealed Day conspired with the male suspects to rob Matthews. Day and Jenkins face multiple charges to include first degree murder.

This remains an active investigation. Detectives are working to identify and arrest any additional suspects.

Homicide Investigation Underway in Accokeek

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is conducting an investigation into the death of a man in Accokeek. The victim is 35-year-old Reginald Harris of Clinton.

On June 27, 2023, at approximately 7:55 pm, officers were called to the 500 block of Farmington Road W. Harris was located outside suffering from trauma. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. An autopsy will confirm cause and manner of death.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run in Clinton

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a now fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred earlier this month. The deceased motorcycle rider is 30-year-old Michael Robinson Jr. of Hyattsville.  

On June 13, 2023, at approximately 5:15 pm, officers responded to the 9000 block of Woodyard Road in Clinton for a collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed an unidentified driver in a Ford Crown Victoria crossed the double yellow line on Woodyard Road and struck the victim who was riding a motorcycle. The driver then struck another vehicle before fleeing the scene. Robinson was transported to the hospital with critical injuries. Investigators were notified of his death on June 27, 2023.

Investigators have released a photo of the suspected driver as well as the involved car which had the words “AIN’T SKEERED” in white lettering across the top portion of the windshield.

Illegal Street Racing Initiative

On Friday, June 23, 2023, the Prince George's County Police Department kicked off a new initiative to address illegal pop-up car events that have been occurring in the county.  

These events have attracted participants from all over the region as well as surrounding states. Participants block roadways, take over parking lots and drive recklessly causing property damage, creating a hazardous situation for drivers, spectators, as well as innocent bystanders.   Crowds gather to surround the event attempting to prevent officers from taking enforcement action.  More than 150 people have been in attendance to these illegal events.     

On June 24th, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Officers from the Prince George's County Police Department, with assistance from the Prince George's County Sheriff's Office and Maryland State Police, dispersed a large gathering in a parking lot near Marlboro Pike and Forestville Road. Three arrests were made. 27-year-old Alan Terrell McKenzie, of Suitland, was charged with hit and run. Two 17-year-old males were charged with disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment. They also aimed a laser beam at a police helicopter that was at the scene collecting video evidence. This violates United States Code Title 18 - 39A*. The involved aircrew submitted both names to the FAA and FBI for additional follow-up and possible charges.      

PGPD stands firmly against illegal and dangerous pop-up car events. Investigators from the Department's Homeland Security Division will review video evidence collected from officer’s mobile video equipment, surrounding surveillance cameras, and the police helicopter to identify vehicles or individuals who participated in this event. Then the appropriate charges will be applied for.  Insurance companies may receive letters from the Police Department notifying them that the vehicle insured under their policy was involved in illegal street demonstration activity. 

-Participants at these events can be charged with misdemeanor crimes or violations of the Maryland Vehicle Law.   

*US Code Title 18 - 39A - Whoever knowingly aims the beam of a laser pointer at an aircraft in the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States or at the flight path of such an aircraft shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.

PGPD Homicide Unit Investigating Fatal Shooting

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting early Thursday morning in unincorporated Hyattsville. The victim is 28-year-old Rodney Wells of Hyattsville. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime.

On June 22, 2023, at approximately 12:30 am, officers responded to the 4000 block of Warner Avenue for a shooting. Two adult males were located outside suffering from gunshot wounds and transported to a hospital for treatment. Wells died of his injuries several hours later. The second victim remains hospitalized.

Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify suspect(s).

PGPD Investigating Homicide in Fort Washington

The Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting Thursday evening in Fort Washington. The victim is 20-year-old Avire Crowder of Clinton. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime.

On June 22, 2023, at approximately 5:15 pm, officers responded to the 1200 block of Palmer Road for a shooting. The victim was located inside of a car suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital.

Detectives are working to identify a suspect(s) and determine a motive.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Shooting in Temple Hills

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday evening in Temple Hills. The decedent is 19-year-old Tyzaiah Gaither of Washington, DC.

On June 22, 2023, at approximately 5:50 pm, officers responded to the 3200 block of Naylor Road. Gaither was located outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Investigators are working to determine the circumstances of this shooting and identify those involved.

Four Juveniles Arrested for Attempted Carjacking; Two Loaded Guns Recovered

 

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Carjacking Interdiction Unit charged four juveniles in connection with an attempted carjacking on Wednesday night. The suspects include a 16-year-old male, two 15-year-old males and a 14-year-old male. The four suspects are from Washington, DC. The 16-year-old suspect is charged as an adult in this case.

On June 21, 2023, at approximately 11:10 pm, officers responded to the 1500 block of Iverson Street in Oxon Hill. The victim advised officers that two suspects had just approached her as she got out of her Kia sedan. A suspect pushed her to the ground and took her car keys. The suspects entered the victim’s Kia but fled from the car upon seeing a steering wheel lock. The suspects ran back to the green Kia Soul they arrived in and fled the area.

Less than an hour later, CIU detectives and Division IV Oxon Hill Station patrol officers observed the suspect vehicle which was confirmed stolen. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the 4800 block of Indian Head Highway. The four occupants in the Kia Soul bailed out of the vehicle and fled on foot. After a short foot chase, the four suspects were arrested. Two loaded handguns were recovered.

The four suspects are charged with attempted carjacking and related charges. The 16-year-old was transported to the Department of Corrections. The three other suspects were committed to a juvenile detention facility.

Missing Man Found

 Update June 26, 2023: Mr. Ray has been located safe and returned home.

Boris Ray

The Prince George's County Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in finding a missing man. He is identified as 59-year-old Boris Ray. He was last seen in the 6400 block of 8^Th Avenue in Hyattsville on June 20, 2023.

Mr. Ray is a black male, 6’2” and 230 pounds. He has gray hair, brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a large blue hoodie, blue overalls, a black hat and white shoes.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run

UPDATE July 11, 2023: The deceased pedestrian has been identified as 60-year-old Richard Hill of Takoma Park.

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run that occurred Saturday morning. Investigators are working to notify the victim’s family before his identity is released.  

On June 17, 2023, at approximately 3:20 am, officers responded to the area of University Boulevard and Riggs Road in the unincorporated section of Hyattsville for a crash involving a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation revealed an unidentified driver struck the pedestrian, who is a wheelchair user, in the roadway. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on scene. The striking driver did not remain on the scene. Preliminarily, the striking vehicle is described as a silver Volkswagen.

PGPD Arrest and Charge Suspects in Fatal Shooting

Update June 29, 2023: A third suspect is now in custody in connection with this case. He’s 21-year-old Milton Alarcon-Ruiz of Capitol Heights. He was taken into custody in New Jersey where he remains pending extradition to Prince George’s County. He is charged with first and second-degree murder and related charges.

The Prince George’s County Police Department Homicide Unit identified and charged two men in connection with a homicide on Friday. The suspects are 34-year-old Otoniel Morales and 19-year-old Edwin Roque Alarcon, both of Seat Pleasant. The victim, in this case, is 29-year-old Mynor Galvez Juarez of Hyattsville. 

 

On June 16, 2023, at approximately 11:40 pm, officers responded to the 900 block of Addison Road South to check on the welfare of an unresponsive man on the side of the roadway. Once on scene, officers located the victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

 

During the investigation, detectives developed Morales and Roque Alarcon as suspects and determined the murder occurred in the 6600 block of Greig Street in Seat Pleasant. The preliminary investigation revealed the victim and Morales were involved in a dispute prior to the murder.  

Otoniel Morales is charged with first and second-degree murder. Edwin Roque Alarcon is charged with accessory after the fact. Both are in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

Gang Unit Investigation Leads to Large Seizure of Firearms and Illegal Drugs

The Strategic Investigations Division-Gang Unit recently launched an extensive, months-long investigation into the trafficking of firearms and narcotics. This involved suspected “GMF Crew” members. During its investigation, the Gang Unit identified a home from where the criminal enterprise operated. After developing probable cause, the Gang Unit executed a court ordered search and seizure warrant on the home in the 4000 block of Windflower Way in Bowie. Recovered at this location was 10 firearms, 47.5 pounds of suspected marijuana, 15 grams of suspected cocaine and various documents indicative of financial fraud. This operation was funded in part through the Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network (MCIN) grant from the Governor's Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services.

*22-year-old Casheus Covington of Bowie; Charges: armed drug trafficking and related offenses

*24-year-old Joseph Crawford of Greenbelt; Charges: possession with the intent to distribute

PGPD Arrests Suspect Who Committed A Sexual Assault While Impersonating ICE Agent

 

Victor  Reed

 

Prince George’s County Police Department Sexual Assault Unit detectives identified and charged a man for impersonating a federal law enforcement agent and sexually assaulting a woman in Oxon Hill. The suspect is 26-year-old Victor Antonio Reed of Washington, DC.

 

On June 13, 2023, at approximately 8:15 pm, detectives were notified of a sexual assault that had just occurred in a shopping center parking lot in the 5400 block of Saint Barnabas Road. The preliminary investigation revealed Reed approached the victim, an adult Hispanic female, as she walked in the parking lot. Reed displayed a badge and identified himself as an agent with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and instructed her to get into his car or face deportation. Once inside of his vehicle, Reed sexually assaulted her. She was eventually allowed to leave Reed’s car and call for help.

 

Through investigative techniques, Reed was identified as the suspect and taken into custody following a traffic stop in Temple Hills on June 15, 2023.

 

Reed is charged with first and second degree rape, impersonating a law enforcement officer, a firearms offense and additional charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

 

At this time, there are no additional reports of this nature involving Reed.

17-Year-old & 18-Year-Old Charged in Connection With Fatal Shooting in May

Lavelle Harris

Homicide Unit detectives identified and charged two suspects for a fatal shooting that occurred in May in Forestville. The suspects are 18-year-old Lavelle Harris of Washington, DC, and a 17-year-old male from District Heights. They are charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Kendall Batson of District Heights. 

On May 11, 2023, at approximately 6:35 pm, officers responded to a parking lot in the 2300 block of Ritchie Road. Batson was located suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital. 

The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was shot during a carjacking. The victim and suspects were not known to each other.

Harris is charged with first and second degree murder, armed carjacking and related charges. The 17-year-old suspect is charged with conspiracy to commit first and second degree murder, armed carjacking and related charges. Both are in the custody of the Department of corrections on a no-bond status.
