Renard Banks

The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in finding a missing man. He is identified as 62-year-old Renard Banks. He was last seen in the 9100 block of Helmsley Drive in Clinton at approximately 6:00 pm on April 25, 2024.

Mr. Banks is a black male, 6'5" tall and 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, long pants, white shoes and carrying a brown paper bag.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run

Update April 25, 2024: Investigators are working to identify a dark blue 2018-2019 Hyundai Sonata Sedan similar to the picture below. The vehicle is suspected to have damage to the passenger side, to include the headlight and grille.

Update April 24, 2024: The deceased pedestrian has been identified as 55-year-old Barry Mitchell of Laurel.

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian that occurred in the unincorporated section of Laurel. The identity of the deceased pedestrian, an adult male, will be released once his family has been notified. 

On April 21, 2024, at approximately 8:10 pm, officers were called to the 9000 block of Contee Road for a crash involving a pedestrian. Once on scene, officers located the pedestrian in the roadway suffering from trauma. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced deceased a short time later.

The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of an unidentified vehicle was traveling eastbound on Contee Road, when for reasons under investigation, they struck the pedestrian. The driver did not remain on the scene. Investigators are working to determine the make and model of the striking vehicle and identify the driver.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision. The identity of the deceased pedestrian, an adult male, will be released once his family is notified.   

On April 20, 2024, at approximately 8:40 pm, officers responded to the 9400 block of Annapolis Road in Lanham for a collision involving a pedestrian. Once on scene, officers located the pedestrian in the roadway suffering from trauma. He was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed the involved driver struck the pedestrian in the westbound lanes of Annapolis Road. The driver remained on the scene. He was not injured.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Collision

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal three-vehicle collision that occurred in Oxon Hill on Friday. The deceased passenger of one of the involved vehicles is 71-year-old Herminia Gamit of Suitland.

On April 19, 2024, at approximately 1:20 pm, officers responded to a collision in the area of Oxon Hill Road and Clipper Way. Gamit was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced deceased a short time later. The injuries sustained by two of the involved drivers and other passengers are not considered life-threatening.

The preliminary investigation revealed the collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of Oxon Hill Road. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Suspect Wanted in Shooting at Gym in Custody

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Gun Crimes Unit identified and charged the suspect wanted for a recent shooting at a gym in the city of Glenarden. The suspect is 24-year-old Nelson Ballard III of Landover.

On April 11, 2024, at approximately 8:30 pm, officers with the Glenarden Police Department responded to the 9400 block of Ruby Lockhart Boulevard for a shooting. Once on scene, they located a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition. The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Gun Crimes Unit was notified and assumed the investigation.

Through various investigative techniques, detectives identified the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant. The PGPD’s Fugitive Squad took Ballard into custody on April 17, 2024.

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect shot the victim during an argument while playing basketball.

Ballard is charged with attempted first degree murder, attempted second degree murder, weapons offenses and related charges.

Suspect in Custody in Connection With Fatal Shooting

 

Wilmer Echenique-Navarro

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and charged a suspect wanted for a recent murder in the unincorporated section of Takoma Park. The suspect is 22-year-old Wilmer Echenique-Navarro of Capitol Heights. He’s charged in connection with the murder of 40-year-old Derek Coleman of no fixed address.

On March 3, 2024, at approximately 7:15 am, officers responded to the 6700 block of New Hampshire Avenue for a reported shooting. The victim was located in an apartment building stairwell suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Through various investigative techniques, detectives identified Echenique-Navarro as the suspect. On April 15, 2024, the PGPD’s Fugitive Unit located the suspect and took him into custody. He has admitted to shooting the victim. The motive remains under investigation.  

Echenique-Navarro is charged with first and second degree murder and is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

PGPD Investigating Forest Heights Police Department Officer-Involved Shooting

At the request of the Forest Heights Police Department, the Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating a non-fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday evening. The suspect, 35-year-old Jhomari Delevante of Silver Spring, is charged in connection with the incident.

The preliminary investigation revealed on April 15, 2024, at approximately 5:30 pm, officers with the Forest Heights Police Department observed a vehicle wanted in a neighboring jurisdiction linked to an assault suspect. Officers gave the driver, Delevante, numerous verbal commands to exit the SUV. When he exited, he was holding an object initially believed to be a knife and moved toward the officers. One Forest Heights Police Officer discharged his duty weapon, striking Delevante. The officers provided medical aid until an ambulance arrived. Delevante was transported to a hospital where he remains with injuries not considered life-threatening. A silver-colored multi-tool Delevante was holding was recovered at the scene.

Delevante is charged with possession of a dangerous weapon with the intent to injure and resisting/interfering with an arrest.

 

The PGPD’s Internal Affairs Division is investigating the actions of the officer who discharged his duty weapon.

On April 15, 2024, at approximately 11:05 pm, officers responded to the area of John Rogers Boulevard and Courtland Lane in the unincorporated section of Upper Marlboro. Once on scene, officers located the pedestrian in the roadway suffering from trauma. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced deceased a short time later.

The preliminary investigation revealed the involved driver struck the pedestrian in the southbound lanes of John Rogers Boulevard. The driver remained on the scene. She was not injured.

PGPD Charges Suspect in Connection With Stabbing Prior to Officer-Involved Shooting

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit charged a suspect in connection with a stabbing and home invasion which occurred prior to a non-fatal officer-involved shooting on Sunday in District Heights. The suspect is 40-year-old Raphael Coates of District Heights.

 

On April 14, 2024, at approximately 9:55 am, officers responded to a home in the 1800 block of Addison Road South for a reported home invasion. The 911 caller also advised an individual had been stabbed. The responding officers encountered Coates outside of the home. He turned and fled back inside. Seconds later, the stabbing victim exited the home followed by Coates who was armed with a large piece of lumber. The officers gave the suspect repeated verbal commands. As Coates moved toward one of the officers, the officer discharged his duty weapon, striking the suspect. Officers provided emergency medical care to both Coates and the stabbing victim until an ambulance arrived. The suspect and victim remain hospitalized and are expected to survive their injuries.

 

The preliminary investigation revealed Coates initially stabbed the victim outside and chased him into the home. They are known to each other. Preliminarily, the motive appears to be a dispute over money.

 

Coates is charged with attempted second degree murder, home invasion, first degree assault and related charges. Once released from the hospital, he will be transported to the Department of Corrections.  

 

The Internal Affairs Division is investigating the actions of the officer who discharged his duty weapon. As is standard procedure, he is now on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. That officer joined the agency in 1994 and is assigned to the Bureau of Patrol.

Detectives Investigate Fatal Shooting

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is working to identify and arrest the suspect(s) who killed a man Sunday evening. The victim is 18-year-old Michael Cooper of Washington, DC. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.

On April 14, 2024, at approximately 6:45 pm, officers with the Maryland-National Capital Park Police, Seat Pleasant Police and PGPD responded to a park in the 800 block of Birchleaf Avenue for a shooting. Once on scene, they located Cooper suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Detectives are working to identify a suspect(s) and a motive.

The PGPD investigates all homicides that occur in the jurisdiction of Maryland-National Capital Park Police.

Detectives Release Video & Images Connected to Murder of Trash Removal Company Employee

 Homicide Unit detectives released images of the suspects and video of the car used in the recent murder of a trash removal company employee in the unincorporated section of Hyattsville. The victim is 30-year-old Idongesit Udosen of Lanham. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.

On April 4, 2024, at approximately 3:40 pm, officers responded to the 6800 block of Greenvale Parkway for a shooting. Officers located Udosen in the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The suspects are seen driving what appears to be a gray Kia sedan in the area of Greenvale Parkway prior to the murder. When the trash truck arrives at the scene, two suspects exit the car and shoot Udosen. The suspects then flee the area. Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify the suspects. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime.
