Prince George’s
County, Maryland…. Prince George’s County Police Chief Mark A. Magaw is pleased
to announce the results of the 2012 January Initiative. The initiative, which ran for five consecutive
weeks, was conducted during a 24 hour, seven day a week period. The initiative included police officers from
the Bureau of Patrol, Narcotics Enforcement Division, Special Operations
Division, Special Investigations Division, Traffic Enforcement Unit, Special
Assignment Teams, Robbery Suppression and Burglary Suppression Teams. Each unit conducted proactive enforcement
operations in communities inside the Beltway that have been identified as having
a high propensity for criminal activity.
“The incredible
amount of work done by the officers involved in this program only
exemplifies our commitment to making these communities safer,” said Major
Joseph McCann.
During the initiative,
officers made a total of 551 arrests that included two murder arrests, three attempted
murder arrests, 23 robberies or attempted robbery arrests and three carjacking
arrests and seized 54 handguns. Officers recovered illegal drugs with a street
value totaling nearly $100,000.
“Our community
deserves the very best that we have to offer. With that, I want to assure our
community that we will continue to work together in partnership to reduce
crime,” said Chief Mark A. Magaw.
