The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Operations Division regrets to inform you of the passing of retired K9, Ari. Ari was the faithful partner of A/Sgt Robert Heverly.
Ari served as a bomb detection dog from October 2002 until December 2011. Ari conducted bomb sweeps at FedEx Field in Landover before major events and assisted with many presidential and foreign dignitary movements and events. Ari also assisted the Prince George’s County Fire Department’s Bomb Squad with bomb threats, suspicious vehicles and packages and securing perimeters.
Ari was certified through the Prince George’s County Police Department, ATF, the United States Police Canine Association and the North American Police Work Dog Association. A/Sgt. Heverly and Ari would train together weekly to maintain these certifications.
The 13-year-old Belgian Malinois was a cherished member of the PGPD. “Ari was an incredible dog, he loved people and loved sniffing out explosives, “ said A/Sgt. Heverly.
Ari is the third retired K9 to pass away this summer. In August, we lost Andy who was also the beloved partner of A/Sgt Heverly. K9 “Maggie” also passed away. She was the faithful partner of Major Edward Davey.
