Prince George’s County, Maryland… Chief of Police Mark Magaw has announced that federal agents from the FBI, DEA, and ATF are being embedded this week into County Homicide squads to provide additional resources to assist with the investigations of 12 murders that have occurred since January 1st. Additionally, officers from the Maryland State Police, County Sheriff’s Department, Mount Rainier Police Department and Bladensburg Police Department joined County specialty units last night to saturate the areas of the county where these murders have taken place. Approximately 135 additional officers joined patrol officers to concentrate enforcement efforts in the areas of Oxon Hill, Suitland, Hillcrest Heights, Capitol Heights, Forestville, Langley Park, and Adelphi. Their goal was to take law enforcement action to prevent any future violence while obtaining information on open homicide cases. Officers made 44 arrests, including 22 felony arrests, served 1 search warrant and confiscated marijuana, cocaine, and PCP.
“These additional officers will continue to work in the areas where our recent homicides have occurred until the violence stops,” stated Chief of Police Mark Magaw. “I am very concerned about the number of homicides since January 1st. We will stop this unacceptably high level of violence that has plagued our inner beltway communities. I have met with community leaders in Districts I, III, and IV this week and am energized by their support. Together, we will bring calm to all segments of our County.”
