Enhanced Traffic Enforcement Over Holiday Weekend

It’s a sobering number. Over the July 4th holiday in 2012, 179 people were killed in drunk driving crashes across the country. That’s six times the average daily number. The Prince George’s County Police Department is committed to finding and arresting those who choose to drink and drive on our roads this holiday weekend.

Our RAID team (Reducing Alcohol Impaired Driving) will be out tonight and throughout the weekend searching for drunk drivers. That team made 233 DUI arrests in all of 2013.

Additional PGPD officers will also take part in a second DUI-related enforcement effort starting tonight. It’s called Project SOLO – Saving Our Loved Ones. Those officers will fan out across the county looking for drunk or impaired drivers.

The PGPD is committed to arresting drunk drivers year round. Just last Friday, we conducted a sobriety checkpoint in Laurel. That night, we arrested three drunk drivers.
